HURRICANE SEASON has begun - Secure Boats/Property
While our marina seems to be in a protected location, there are things you need to do to reduce the possibility of damage to not only your vessel, but the docks and neighboring vessels.
The base has a hurricane plan that starts when a real threat is within 72 hours. This includes notifying our members to secure or move their boats and to remove any items that can be easily blown away. Please respond immediately upon notification from the marina office and make time to ensure we have your proper contact phone numbers. If the base closes, all members must leave - please do not plan on staying with your boat. After the storm, the Wing commander will determine when access to the marina will be allowed and an "ALL CLEAR" sign will be posted. PLease stay away from the docks until the "ALL CLEAR" sign is posted, while we do understand your concerns, your safety must come first.
MINIMAL REQUIREMENTS
The following is a quick list of the minimal requirements if your vessel is to be kept in the water during the storm.
Mooring lines at least doubled and positioned to accommodate rising water (bow, stern, and spring)
Chafing gear in place as needed
Appropriate fenders in place
All canvas removed and stowed (to include Biminis tops, side curtains, fly bridge cover, windshield cover, eisen glass, etc.
All sails removed and booms properly secured
Remove any other items that can become "torpedoes" in high winds (life rafts, deck furniture, satellite dishes, fishing gear, deck/cockpit cushions, etc.
Ensure your dock box is locked and secured on the dock or remove it (see maintenance staff for assistance if needed)
Disconnect and store power cords and hoses - electric is turned off as we hit the 24 hour - shut off electrical devices (except bilge pump) to protect battery
